At Main Street Veterinary Hospital, we believe exceptional care doesn't happen by accident. It comes from a commitment to continual learning, accountability, and doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. That's why we chose to become AAHA Accredited.
For you, this means confidence knowing your pet is receiving care that meets some of the highest standards in veterinary medicine
Thank you for trusting us with your pets. Earning AAHA Accreditation reflects our commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality veterinary care today and for years to come. We're honored to serve the Lake Norman community and look forward to caring for your family for many years ahead.
Summer heat can sneak up faster than most people expect, and for pets, it can turn serious in minutes, not hours. Unlike us, pets don’t sweat to cool down. They rely mostly on panting, which means they can overheat quickly, especially in humid conditions.
Early warning signs to watch for:
Heavy or constant panting
Thick drool or foamy saliva
Slowing down, reluctance to move, or seeking shade
Signs of Heat Stroke:
Difficulty breathing
Vomiting or diarrhea
Weakness, stumbling, or collapse
Bright red or pale gums
If you’re seeing these symptoms, don’t wait; this can escalate quickly.
Common situations that lead to overheating (even for attentive owners):
Midday walks when pavement is hotter than it feels
“Quick” errands with pets left in the car (even with windows cracked)
Outdoor play without enough breaks or water

A good rule of thumb:
👉 If it feels hot to you, it’s much hotter for them.
When in doubt, call Main Street Veterinary at 704-765-1115
Heat-related issues can progress quickly, but early action makes a big difference. If something feels off, it’s always safer to reach out and get guidance.
Don't forget that Main Street clients have access to direct guidance from a licensed veterinarian after hours through our partnership with Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG). If emergency care is needed, our team can help coordinate a smooth transition so your pet receives care as quickly as possible.

National Dog Day is August 26, not that you need an excuse to spoil your best friend!
Here are a few fun ways to celebrate:
🐾 Take an early morning adventure before the heat arrives.
🐾 Pick up a new toy or enrichment puzzle.
🐾 Freeze peanut butter or pumpkin in a Kong for a cool summer treat.
🐾 Book a spa day or boarding play day with our Pet Resort.
We'll be featuring some of our favorite photos on Facebook and Instagram throughout the week!
