Meet the Doctors

Amanda Goodwin DVM

Once a gymnast, collegiate pole vaulter, and soccer player, Dr. Goodwin’s love of animals eventually conquered that of athletics when she took an apprenticeship assisting Dr. Bonar at the Cleveland Zoo while an undergraduate student at Case Western Reserve University. After double majoring in biology and chemistry, Dr. Goodwin was admitted to Ohio State University where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.

Lori Hoe DVM

Dr. Lori Hoe has been practicing small animal veterinary medicine in the Lake Norman area since 2007. She is passionate about pets and the people that love them. Dr. Hoe graduated with highest distinction and honors from Penn State University and Summa Cum Laude from Auburn University of Veterinary Medicine.

Megan Manzie DVM

Dr. Manzie grew up on Amelia Island in northeast Florida, where she aspired to be a vet since she was a young girl. She attended the University of Florida where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science in 2009 and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2014.

Jacob Wasserman

Dr. Wasserman grew up near Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended Xavier University for his undergraduate education. After a brief stint as an accounting major, he ultimately decided to change course and pursue natural sciences, graduating from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013.

Alexis Pennings, DVM

Dr. Pennings grew up on a farm in southwest Virginia (Abingdon), raising sheep and horses. She then completed her undergraduate degree at Mary Washington University and her veterinary degree at Virginia Tech in 2018.

Caroline Atkins, DVM

Dr. Atkins is originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, but moved to the Carolinas while in college and has no plans to leave! She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from College of Charleston and went on to earn her veterinary degree from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Jackie Whitlock DVM

Dr. Whitlock is originally from Pennsylvania, but has lived in the South for 25 years. She received both her Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science and Master’s degree in Earth and Environmental Resources Management at the University of South Carolina.
